Bio

Stephen Maine is a painter and critic working in West Cornwall, Connecticut. His art criticism and other writing has been published in Art in America, ARTnews, Art on Paper, Artnet.com Magazine, Artillery Magazine, The New York Sun, Hyperallergic, the Brooklyn Rail, and Artcritical.com, where he is a contributing editor. 

Stephen has curated exhibitions at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, CT; Alpan Gallery in Huntington, NY; and, in Manhattan, at The Shirley Fiterman Art Center at Borough of Manhattan Community College, The Painting Center, Lesley Heller Workspace, Frederieke Taylor Gallery, and the Visual Arts Gallery. He has taught in the Graduate Fine Arts department at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, at Parsons School of Design, and at Hartford Art School, University of Hartford. He is currently on the faculty of Purchase College of the State University of New York.
