About
Emily Loughlin’s ceramic and multi-media sculptures reference the interwovenness of humanity and the natural world. Combining sculptural ceramics with woven elements and textural, lichen-like glazing, her works allude to the natural processes of growth, rooting, fungal networks, and the tangles of human garbage washed up on seashores. Natural and variably ephemeral materials combine with indelible ceramic to reference the parallel time scales (pace layering) that govern the natural, cultural, and structural systems upon which we base our society.
Loughlin has a B.A. Liberal Arts (Sculpture) from Sarah Lawrence College and lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
