Bio

John Roman Brown (b. 1966 Dayton, Ohio) works primarily in oil paint to explore abstraction, truth, consonance, peace and the failed ability to contain the chaotic forces around him. A can of flowers is not free of pain or anguish.

He is a distant cousin of the American painter Charles E. Burchfield and they share similar descriptions of hauntingly beautiful work; dreamlike in abstract realism and paint life as they are living and seeing it. The vitality of Brown's work is informed by his youth growing up in the sharp, crispy desert light of the American West and later his adult life in New York City and subsequently Los Angeles. John Brown worked as an art director for 2000 years prior to teaching himself to paint. His work is in the collections of many prominent American collectors.
